Dark romance is the umbrella for love stories told through moral darkness: violence, obsession, captivity, coercion, revenge, antiheroes who hurt people, including sometimes the people they love. The romance is genuine, but the path to it runs through cruelty rather than detouring around it. The darkness is structural, not decorative.
